The perfect design of one of the gems of the Belarusian capital’s creative architecture – the Minsk-based International Education and Exchange Centre (best known as IBB named after Johannes Rau) was the handiwork of our company in partnership with his German counterpart Detlef Richard Pirschke.
Over the 15-year period the building complex has been around, the IBB has scooped the Grand Prix and a medal of Belarus’ nationwide contest in the Best Building nomination, an honorary certificate of the international association Architect Union. Moreover, the IBB has virtually become one of the sights of Minsk.
The core of the composition is based on an idea by Kazimir Malevich, which is in tune with the IBB concept – to express new creative ideas. A Malevich called “House under Construction” features a circle, a triangle and a rectangle colored white, blue and red.
The same year The House under Construction was painted (1915) Malevich “invented” his famous Black Square. Eight decades after, Vorobyeu Partners and Pirschke recreated The House under Construction in practice by revitalizing the painting in a marvel of architecture.
The rectangle materialized itself in a four-storied hotel that accommodates 80 guests, with 5 conference rooms and a club lounge. The circle turned into a conference centre to seat 350 persons, while the triangle is now a restaurant that can service 150 customers at a time. “A combination of multicolored geometrical figures of different sizes creates stable asymmetrical compositions pierced with inner motion,” a dictionary says about works by Malevich. The definition comes up with the best possible explanation of the concept of the international education and exchange centre such as the IBB. Also, it is quite symbolic that the architectural tribute to Malevich has been paid in the motherland of the great artist.
One of the distinctive features of the building complex is that it makes an active use of power-saving technologies, in particular, special thermal insulation materials and constructions, as well as renewable energy sources.
