Design Honor Award MASA – TV Tower, Minsk, Belarus
While choosing the site for television towers, which add a pitch of prominence to a city’s skyline, architects all over the world pick the most significant areas of the city landscape.
From that point of view, the site proposed for erecting a radio & television tower in Minsk looks most optimal as its meets all town planning standards.
It is planned that the construction project will be developed in the downtown area at the crossing of Orlovskaya Street and Prospekt Pobeditelei Avenue, which are the city’s major transport arteries. The situation plan of the design project points out that the site offers the tower a spectacular viewpoint and diversifies the profiles of several central squares and streets of Minsk: Oktiabrskaya Square, several sectors of Victory Square and Gorky Park, Independence Square and the entire recreational perimeter from Skaryna Avenue to Krynitsa Water Pond.
The architectural solution for the TV tower project has its proprietary distinctive features that make it a unique example in the world register of creative architecture. The TV tower is a cylinder 425 metres high and 14 metres in diameter.
The stem of the tower shall serve as the housing for equipment, offices and technical premises, a conference hall to seat 300 guests, restaurants, an observation platform to accommodate 120 tourists at a time. The total volume of premises within the 51-storied tower is 20,800 square metres.
